Introducing Our Yuba City Chiropractors
Dr. Paul Funk

As I was growing up, I had a couple of occasions when I woke up with a muscle spasm in my neck. My mother took me to a doctor of chiropractic both times and I had relief from the pain. Several years later I was working in roofing construction and fell through a roof, injuring my lower back. Within a few days the pain increased and I began to have numbness in my leg. This pain was diagnosed as sciatica. Once again I had a need for chiropractic care. I again went to a chiropractor and within a few weeks was doing much better.
At this same time I was attending Brigham Young University in preparation for dental school. I returned to California for a family wedding and renewed a friendship with our family chiropractor. Because of past experiences with chiropractic, I decided to spend a couple of days in his office to learn more about the profession. I then went back home and told my wife Debb that I was going to go to be a chiropractor-- not a dentist. This was a big shock for her. Tears followed.
I was accepted to Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 1976 and graduated from there in March of 1979. Upon completion of my schooling, I took the California State Chiropractic Boards and received my license in July 1979. Since I was from the Sacramento area, Debb & I decided to move back to California with our two children. Three weeks after moving to Yuba City, we had our third child, Jason, and five more since. Debb and I have raised eight children here and have made Yuba City our home. On September 4, 1979, I opened Funk Chiropractic Clinic.
Early in my practice, I completed the Chiropractic Orthopedics course through the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic Post Graduate education. I also became very involved in Worker’s Compensation in the state of California that led me to becoming a QME (Qualified Medical Examiner) and doing disability evaluations for the Division of Worker’s Compensation. This I did in addition to having a busy chiropractic practice. Additionally, I was elected as President of the Butte Society of the California Chiropractic Association for two years.
Dr. Jason Funk
Chiropractic was not my first choice. This is what I’ve heard time and time again in practice, it is also the way that I started my education. As I started college I did not have plans to become a Chiropractor.
I grew up with chiropractic in my life, yet I never understood chiropractic, until college. I was sitting in a lecture as a Chiropractor explained what Chiropractic is: “Chiropractic helps the body to heal itself, safe & naturally!” Chiropractors remove obstacles that may interfere with the bodies natural healing processes allowing the body to heal effectively and efficiently.
I started my education at Brigham Young University - Idaho, where I studied Biology. I was accepted to Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa where I received my Doctor of Chiropractic degree. After almost four years at Palmer College I moved back to Yuba City as a student intern at Funk Chiropractic. After graduation I then continued to practice with Funk Chiropractic.
My Philosophy
I started my education to help everyone that I come into contact with to improve their health and quality of life. I know that the body can heal itself; it does not need any help, only no interference. The interference is that of spinal subluxations; these are removed with Chiropractic adjustments. I also try to utilize exercise and diet in conjunction with Chiropractic adjustments to improve a patient’s health; as health and wellness are lifestyle choices not merely something to occasionally “fix.”
